A Digital World Worth Participating In
Every second, at least 4 new social media users join us in this vast digital realm. Every hour, we tap, type, swipe and click on our phones 100 times. Every day, we collectively spend 11.5 billion hours on social media. Our digital habits are undoubtedly eating into our lives — but does it serve us? That’s the question Bolder-founders Eirik Skjærseth and Anne-Sofie Engelschiøn asked themselves.
The story kicks off back in 2014, when the two of them came together to reimagine digital solutions, the human way. This was long before there was talk about a GDPR, yet they were raising questions about how personal data could fuel Cyber-Physical experiences, without compromising privacy. Bolder has grown into something much bigger since the early days, but the core mission remains the same: To build infrastructure that truly serves human beings in the digital age.
Over the years, we have explored several avenues, at one point collaborating with the Municipality of Stavanger to build Smart City solutions. We also joined forces with innovators such as Zynapp and Stereolabs, both companies that share our ambition to transform the digital space and give people control of their data. In 2020, we took a big leap as we opened the doors to AIR by Bolder, an adventure center that doubled as a Cyber-Physical lab for our digital infrastructure and partners.
This long journey has finally led us to our most important undertaking yet. In 2024, we launched “Universal Basic Digital Infrastructure'', as we believe everyone should have the tools needed to participate on equal footing in the digital realm. With UBDI, everyone, everywhere can access their own infrastructure and toolkit, for free, forever.
It’s in our nature to tell our stories. It’s in our nature to come together to build things that are bigger than ourselves. So why shouldn’t our tools support that? When claiming your UBDI, you can tell your story on your terms, and enjoy complete autonomy over your resources, connections, contributions, and collaborations.
